Command line
Use WhatsApp from a terminal
replywizard is a command line for your own WhatsApp Web session. It lists chats, reads messages, summarises a chat, drafts a reply and transcribes a voice note, from a terminal, a script or an AI coding agent. It reads through the Reply Wizard Chrome extension and never sends, edits or deletes a message: there is no send command.
How to use WhatsApp from a terminal with Reply Wizard
To use WhatsApp from a terminal: install the Reply Wizard extension in Chrome and open web.whatsapp.com, install the replywizard command with npm, turn on Enable AI access on the extension's WhatsApp MCP tab, run any command and type the 6-digit pairing code it shows into the extension, once. After that, replywizard chats lists your chats.

~/.replywizard-mcp/pairing-code.txt; type it into the extension.replywizard pairtells you where to find it. Nothing is readable until you have confirmed it in the browser. -
Run a command
Try
replywizard chats --limit 10. Check the connection at any time withreplywizard status.
The commands
The command line has nine commands: status, pair, chats, messages, contacts, contact, summarize, suggest and transcribe. Seven read your WhatsApp, three of those use your AI provider, and none of them can send, edit or delete a message.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
replywizard status | Shows whether the bridge is up and the browser is paired |
replywizard pair | Says where to find the 6-digit pairing code and how to enter it |
replywizard chats [--limit n] | Lists your chats |
replywizard messages <chatId> [--limit n] | Reads the recent messages of one chat |
replywizard contacts [--limit n] [--includeNonContacts] | Lists your contacts, and with the flag the people who are not saved |
replywizard contact <contactId> | Shows one contact |
replywizard summarize <chatId> | Summarises a chat with your configured AI provider |
replywizard suggest <chatId> [guidance] | Drafts a reply with your configured AI provider; the optional guidance steers it |
replywizard transcribe <messageId> | Transcribes a voice note with your configured AI provider |
Add --json to any command for the raw answer and --help for the full list. summarize, suggest and transcribe use the AI provider you configured in Reply Wizard, so your key stays in the extension.
replywizard chats --limit 5 --json | jq -r '.chats[] | "\(.unreadCount)\t\(.name)"'
replywizard suggest 919110412164 "politely decline"
The same commands are described, with the MCP tools they mirror, in the WhatsApp MCP guide.
Local and remote
The command line has two modes. Local mode runs on the same computer as Chrome through a bridge on 127.0.0.1 and is free. Remote mode works from any other computer, a server or a cloud coding agent, through Reply Wizard's relay, and needs a paid Reply Wizard plan.
| Local | Remote | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | On the computer that runs Chrome | On any other computer, a server or a cloud coding agent |
| How it reaches WhatsApp | A local bridge on 127.0.0.1 | https://mcp.replywizard.app |
| Setup | A 6-digit pairing code, once | replywizard login once |
| How you ask for it | The default | Add --remote, or set REPLYWIZARD_REMOTE=1 |
| Cost | Free | Needs a paid Reply Wizard plan |
Using it from another computer
To use the command line remotely: run replywizard login once and approve the sign-in in the browser, then add --remote to any command or set REPLYWIZARD_REMOTE=1. Chrome must stay open on your own computer with the extension and web.whatsapp.com open, because that is where WhatsApp is read.
replywizard login opens a browser to sign in to your Reply Wizard account and approve. On a machine with no browser, open the link it prints on any device, approve there, and paste the address the browser lands on back into the terminal.
replywizard login
replywizard status --remote
replywizard chats --limit 10 --remote
export REPLYWIZARD_REMOTE=1
replywizard status --remote shows whether your browser is reachable. replywizard logout signs out.
Remote mode needs three things on your side:
- a paid Reply Wizard plan;
- Chrome open on your computer with the extension and web.whatsapp.com open;
- the Use from claude.ai and ChatGPT switch turned on in Reply Wizard's options, on the WhatsApp MCP tab.
Remote calls go through https://mcp.replywizard.app. What is read passes through Reply Wizard's relay and is not stored. The sign-in stays valid for 30 days of use, and you can disconnect it at any time from My account.
Why a command line for AI agents
An AI agent can call replywizard from its shell and filter the output, for example with --json and jq, before the text reaches the model. Nothing is loaded into the model's context until the command is used, whereas an MCP connection loads every tool's description into each session.
For these eight tools that description is about 1,000 tokens, measured on 2 October 2026. It is a small cost, and it is paid on every session whether or not WhatsApp is needed. A command line pays nothing until the agent runs it.
If your client supports MCP and you want the tools to appear natively, the WhatsApp MCP guide covers that. Both routes read the same session and neither can send.
